HEROIC ACTION OF HARDIN COUNTY BOY IN FRANCE MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES
(Iowa Falls Citizen)
An Iowa Falls boy, Cpl. George A. Danger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Danger, has been mentioned by INS news correspondent, Richard Tregaskis, in telling of the Third Armored Division which has spearheaded the U.S. First Army in its drive from the Seine river to the Siegfried line in France and now in Germany.
Correspondent Tregaskis states that some stories of heroism speak for themselves and tells the following about the local boy:
“At Namur on Sept. 6, Cpl. George A. Danger of Iowa Falls Iowa, was helping to observe artillery fire when he spotted enemy anti-tank positions. He saw one of our tanks directly hit.
“Danger worked his way to the burning tank, where one of the crew was killed and three wounded.
“A medical officer was working to disengage one badly wounded man who had lost a leg, but he couldn’t get the casualty through the hedgerow. Danger helped, despite heaviest fire. He then went back to observing and spotted the enemy position so well it was knocked out by artillery.”
(Danger was given the Purple Heart in July for wounds received. He is a brother of Clarence Danger of Ellsworth.)
