PARENTS RECEIVE AWARD GIVEN TO PFC. PAUL COOPER
Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Cooper of this city have received the Purple Heart medal awarded their son, Pfc. Paul E. Cooper, who was seriously wounded May 26, in the Anzio beachhead sector of Italy.
Cooper, who was a member of the Iowa National Guard unit which left here in February, 1941, was hit by machine gun bullets just below the heart and also in the abdomen.
When last heard from he was recovering nicely and had been transferred to another hospital than the one where he was first located.

Paul E. Cooper, 66, Webster City, died Tuesday afternoon, March 22, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines, where he had been a patient for one day.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Friday, March 25, at Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, the Rev. Leroy Miltner officiating. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery. A graveside flag folding ceremony will be conducted by American Legion Post 191. Visitation at the funeral home is after 6 p.m. this evening until time of service.
Paul Eugene Cooper, son of Chester and Bessie Cooper, was born Dec. 22, 1921, on a farm near Stonega. He attended rural schools, and Blairsburg schools.
On Feb. 19, 1952, he married Janet Nichols at Duncombe. The couple resided in Webster City. He was employed by the American Legion for several years, operated the Silver Dollar in Blairsburg for 18 years, and served 26 years as a rural mail carrier.
On June 1, 1982, he married Pat Brim at Omaha. The couple resided in Webster City, where he retired in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Lois (Mrs. John) Kennedy, Lowell, Arkansas; Holly Cooper, Tucson, Arizona; one son, Mike Cooper, Centerville. He had two sisters, Louise Pedigo, Texas; and Margaret De St. Aubin, Hammond, Indiana, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 191, Company E 133rd Infantry (34th) Red Bull Division, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Webster City Country Club.
