Cpl. Conkling served with the U.S. Army in World War II . He served with Co. E - 133rd Infantry 2nd Battalion, Red Bull Div. He was a cook for General Eisenhower.

Harville Conkling, 81, Webster City
Harville “Bud” Conkling, 81, Webster City, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 at the Stratford Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.
Harville Richard Conkling, son of Francis and Hazel Jones Conkling, was born Feb. 24, 1918 at Webster City. He attended Webster City schools. During WW II, he served with Company E, 133rd Infantry 2nd Battalion, Red Bull Division. He was a cook for General Eisenhower. Following his discharge, he returned to Webster City and on Sept. 24, 1946, he married Mae Myrtle Fye at Fort Dodge. From 1946-1949, he worked for People’s Natural Gas. He worked for Frigidaire for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He worked following his retirement for the City of Webster City in the Parks and Recreation Department until 1997. Mrs. Conkling died March 16, 1999.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Pam Conkling, Webster City, Step-daughter and spouse, Bernadine and Bob McBurney of Flagstaff, AZ., grandchildren, Mel Jondal and Melissa Taylor, Webster City, Mary Jo Timmons of Buffalo Center, Mike Tempel of Kamrar, great-grandchildren, Taylor Jondal, Tanner Tempel, and Noah Timmons, sister Mary Jondal, Webster City; brother, Herbert Conkling, Colden, MO., several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, Blake Tempel, sisters, Julia Conkling, Dorothea Heckenberg, brothers, Homer Conkling and Neil Baker.
