Two County Youths Die in Accident
Pair Killed As Car, Truck Hit Saturday
Arnold Christianson, 24, and Jasper Overland, Jr., 23, Dead
Two Hamilton county youths were killed late Saturday night when their car and a Webster City semi-trailer truck sideswiped near the junction of highways 64 and 30 west of Marshalltown.
Dead are Arnold Christianson, 24, who lived two miles northeast of Stanhope, and Jasper Overland, Jr., 23, who lived two miles west of Randall.
Irving Thorson, 22, of Story City, was in serious condition at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown. He suffered internal injuries and a broken arm.
The driver of the truck, alone in his vehicle, was Harold E Gaster, 23 of Webster City. He and Tilford Teig, 23, of Stanhope, the other occupant of the car, were not seriously hurt.
Apparently Sideswiped—
Associated Press reports of the accident quoted L. E. Chevalier, state highway patrolman who investigated the accident as saying the car and the truck apparently sideswiped.
Authorities here said today that the truck, headed west, and the car, headed east, sideswiped in such a way that the car was entangled with the left rear trailer wheels and was dragged 400 feet and into a ditch at the south side of highway 30.
Funeral Services
Funeral services for Jasper Overland Jr., only son of Jasper Overland, widely known farmer who lives west of Randall, are pending.
The Henderson funeral home of Story City will be in charge of the service. The young man, who had been assisting his father on the farm, was not married and his father is his only survivor. He was a veteran of World War II, seeing considerable overseas action with the marine corps.
