GOODELL YANK DECLARED DEAD
Was Reported Missing in Action 3 Years Ago
Goodell -- Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Christenson received a telegram from the government May 9 informing them their son, S. Sgt Stanley Christenson, was officially dead. Three years ago a message came that he was missing in action.
Stanley was born April 4, 1920, in Goodell and was graduated from the local school. He enlisted in the army in January 1940, receiving his training in Moffets field, Ocean Park and Hamilton Field, California.
In Nov. 1941, he was sent to the Philippines, where he saw severe action and was reported missing in April 1942. The message read that he died in July 3, 1942, and it is thought he was a Jap prisoner. A letter would follow with full details.
He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Christenson of Chicago, 4 sisters, Mrs. Rudy Malek, Mrs. Percy Brown, Mrs. Iris Johnson and Phyllis, all of Chicago, the family moving there 2 years ago. This is the first gold star for Goodell's service flag, which has 70 stars.

Stanley E. Christenson was born Apr. 4, 1920 to Harvey and Elizabeth Eva Higfield Christenson. He died July 3, 1942 and has a cenotaph in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell, IA.
Stanley Eugene Christensen is also memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Taguig City, Philippines.
