PARENTS CALLED TO BEDSIDE OF SOLDIER SON
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Calsbeek of Orange City and Miss June Boone of Sioux Center left here Saturday afternoon for North Camp Polk, La. where they were called because of the illness of Pvt. Gerald Calsbeek who was operated on for ruptured appendix and obstruction of the bowel. No word has been received from them as yet, but messages reached Orange City that Gerald’s condition remained about the same.

Gerald Calsbeek, who was reported last week as having been operated on for ruptured appendix and obstruction of the bowels, is reported to be slightly improved, but not yet out of danger. No operation was performed. June Boone and his parents will remain there at least until he is out of danger.

Pvt. Gerald Calsbeek, who has been critically ill following a ruptured appendix at the army camp in North Camp Polk, La., is showing slight improvement this week, according to word received by friends here. June Boone returned home last Wednesday with his mother, and shortly after they learned that he had developed pneumonia. Later this proved to be wrong, but his nurse wrote that he had an abscess around his heart which ruptured, causing a condition similar to pneumonia.

Calsbeek of Orange City will be married to Miss Anna Mae Jordan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jordan of Lee Mills, La., at Lee Mills on Tuesday, April 14. They will return to live here and he will be employed as formerly at the Giesen Store. Gerald recently received his discharge at Jefferson Bks., Mo.
