Jesse Woodrow “J. Woodrow/Woody” Beard was born Aug. 26, 1912 to Elijah Jefferson “E. J.” and Essie Maring Beard. He died Apr. 14, 2013 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Woody served in World War II with the U.S. Navy as Executive Officer of the Navy Catalogue office, earning the rank of Lt. Cdr. Woody and his wife, Dorothy, moved back to Iowa and during his 28 years in Des Moines Woody enjoyed a successful career with the Register and Tribune newspaper and became National Advertising Manager.
