Floyd Valentine Bair was born Feb. 14, 1917 to Claude Leland and Hope Lula Junkens Bair. He died Oct. 31, 1943 and is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney, IA.
Lt. Bair served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 472nd Bomb Squadron, 334th Bomb Group and died in a plane crash near Thornburg, IA while on a routine training flight. He was the pilot of B-25C Mitchell #41-13262. His plane collided with the top of a pine tree in the front yard of his parents home. The impact tore off part of the tail assembly and then continued over the town and crashed and burned within about two miles.
