Alfred A. Burckle, 95, of Webster City, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. A private family burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Visitation will be prior to the service. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Alfred Arthur Burckle, son of Walter and Louvie Wickwire Burckle, was born April 23, 1914 at Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City school system, graduating from Lincoln High in Webster City in 1933. Alfred served in the U.S. Navy Naval Air Corps during WW II in the Pacific Theatre of Action. On May 11, 1938, he married Dorothy Agnes Crippen at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He was a plumber/sheet metal worked with the L.V. Mills Plumbing Company for 38 years. He was self-employed for 8 years. Mrs. Burckle died October 25, 1993. He had resided at Southfield Wellness Community since January of 2006.
Alfred is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and David Ask of Harlan; Judith and Jerry Hesselberth of Morton, IL; grandchildren, Michael and Angela Ask of Underwood; Jennifer and John Dalton of Magnolia, TX; Jay and Laurie Hesselberth of Denver, CO; Kelly Hesselberth of Bradley, IL; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Caroline Walton of Webster City; Betty and John Simpson of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy, Dan Carlyle Buckle; brother, Ralph Buckle; brother-in-law, Ray Walton.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and a 57 year member of American Legion Post # 191.
