IN UNIFORM
Pvt. James W. Bunten, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Bunten, 811 Virginia Street, was promoted to technician fifth grade; it was revealed recently in a news release from Okinawa Shima. Cpl. Bunten has been overseas 17 months and has seen action in the Marianas, on Guam, the Philippines on Leyte and in the Ryukyu Islands on Le Shima and Okinawa. He holds the Philippine liberation ribbon, three bronze battle stars and the bronze arrowhead award for the actual participation in the initial assault phase of an amphibious operation. Cpl. Bunten is a rigger in a line company of an engineer combat battalion, responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges for front line troops. Before entering the army February 16, 1942, he attended Central High School, graduating in 1941. He was employed as a machinist by the Hudson manufacturing plant.
