Sioux Cityan Dies in Crash
Sergeant Brownlee, 28, Killed While Training in England
Master Sergeant Joseph W. Brownlee, 28, was killed April 23 in a plane crash while on a training mission in England, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brownlee, 1005 ½ Court Street, have been informed by the War Department.
Sergeant Brownlee, who had been overseas for two months, received his promotion to master sergeant a short time before his death. He was serving as an engineer on a Flying Fortress.
Born and reared in Sioux City, Sergeant Brownlee attended Woodrow Wilson Junior School and Central High School. At the time he entered the army two years ago he was employed by the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles.
He is survived by his parents; a son, Dennis; a sister, Mrs. Robert Engel, 1005 ½ Court Street and a brother, Robert Brownlee, Santa Fe, N.M.

Joseph W. Brownlee was born Oct. 8, 1914 tp Robert and Agnes Murray Brownlee. He died Apr. 23, 1944 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
