Donald Eldon Brown was born Jan. 7, 1920 to Andrew and Anna Marie Meinecke Brown. He died July 28, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.
Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of U.S. Army Private Donald E. Brown, killed during World War II, were accounted for on June 20, 2018. His remains were brought home to his family in Iowa and buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson, IA on Oct. 26, 2018, with full military honors.
In July 1944, Brown was a member of Company A, 745th Tank Battalion, fighting in support of the 1st Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. Pvt. Brown was killed in action on July 28, 1944, when his M-4 Sherman tank was destroyed by enemy fire near Cambernon, France. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Walls of the Missing” at Brittany American Cemetery. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
