Cpl. Robert Betz of Marine Corps Wounded in Pacific
Cpl. Robert J. Betz, 19, formerly active in sports at Trinity High School, was wounded in action some place in the South Pacific, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Betz, 2729 Second Street, were informed Saturday by the war department.
His mother said that he had been hospitalized but that she had not been informed as to the extent of his injuries. Cpl. Betz entered the Marine Corps here June 1, 1943. He was stationed for a time in San Diego and went overseas January 1, 1944. He was attached to the medical corps of the marines.
At the time of entering service he was a senior at Trinity where he played considerable football and basketball.

Trinity Graduate Wounded Second Time on Okinawa
Robert J. (Bob) Betz, hospital apprentice first class, was wounded April 16 while serving with the marines on Okinawa and now is hospitalized on the Marianna Islands. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Betz, 2729 Second Street, received a letter Saturday from him through the Red Cross saying that Bob had just captured three Japs when he was hit by a Jap sniper through the back. The bullet fractured his arm.
This is the second time Bob has been wounded, the first time being on the Palau Island, where he participated in the invasion. His Purple Heart medal was received Saturday by his parents.
He enlisted March 21, 1942, after graduating from Trinity High School where he was active in athletics. He has been overseas two years.
