INSTRUCTOR
Private First Class Homer D. Berven, son of Mrs. Bertha L. Berven, of this city, is serving as an instructor at Harlingen, Texas, where he has just received his wings as an aerial gunner.

Homer DeForest Berven was born Jan. 3, 1917 to Iver L. and Bertha Louise Munson Berven. He died Mar. 13, 1989 and is buried in Memory Gardens, Iowa City, IA.
Cpl. Berven served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Obituary:
Homer D. Berven, 72, of Iowa City died Monday, March 13 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at George Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
He was born Jan. 3, 1917 at Stanhope, the son of Iver and Bertha Munson Berven. He graduated from Stanhope High School and from the University of Iowa.
On April 11, 1943, he married Nettie Lutz in Quincy, Ill. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II and later was a real estate agent in Iowa City.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pamela (Mrs. Dean) Jackson of Enterprise, Kan., and Sonja (Mrs. Doug) Ziethamel of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one sister; Bernice Johnson of Alta.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Memorial funds have been established at the Preucil School of Music and at the First United Methodist Church, both in Iowa City.
