Sioux City Youth Leaves to Enter Military Academy
Richard J. Beaubien, son of Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Beaubien, 915 Jackson Street, left here Sunday to enter the United States naval academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He received his appointment through Vincent Harrington, who was Ninth district congressman before he entered the air corps.
Richard Beaubien was a member of the National Honor Society and president of the Civics Literary society while a pupil at Central High School. After graduation there in June 1940, he studied mechanical engineering two years at Iowa State College, Ames, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, was active in intramural sports and was the college intramural tennis champion.

Sioux City Youth in naval Academy Graduating Class
Midshipman Richard J. Beaubien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Beaubien, 915 Jackson Street, is a member of the 1946 graduating class of the United States Naval academy at Annapolis. If he passes his final examination, he will be commissioned an ensign in the navy.
Before his admission to the naval academy he attended Trinity High School, Central High School and Iowa State College at Ames. At college he was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Mr. Beaubien was appointed to the naval academy from the former Ninth congressional district of Iowa.
While at Annapolis he has received class numeral in tennis and he participates in track, sailing and soccer. He was a member of the academy’s Boat Club and the Newman Club.
