Eugene Mortimer Armstrong was born May 19, 1919 to William B. and and Ruth Gallup Armstrong. He died Mar. 26, 1944 and is buried in the Municipal Cemetery in Jefferson, IA.
Lt. Armstrong served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and fought in the Tunisian Campaign as a pilot of an observation plane for field artillery. He was KIA in Italy over the beachhead of the Battle of Anzio and posthumously awarded the Air Medal. His body was brought home to Ames, Iowa in 1948.
