Everett Pershing Alber was born Oct. 10, 1918 to Everett Samuel and Nellie Sorena Moines Alber. He died Jan. 4, 1998 and is buried in Murdoch-Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, IA.
Sgt. Alber served in World War II with the U.S. Army Headquarters Company, 1st Infantry Division. A newspaper article from June 1945 quotes him, “I had a big day yesterday. I drove the lead jeep taking General Patton to Nurnberg to the Russian Prisoner of War camp. I was first, then two M. P.’s on motorcycles, then General Patton. Nurnberg is a big city, and I led him right down the middle of the streets at 40 miles an hour with my hand on the horn. Sure was a thrill."
