William H. Witt Killed in Action; Was Missing
Pfc. William H. (“Cotton”) Witt, 28, paratrooper, previously reported missing in action, has been reported killed in action January 8, in Belgium, according to word from the War Department by his wife Dorothy of Minneapolis. He is the son of Mrs. Ethel Witt, 5023 Stone avenue.
Born in Gilmore City, Mo., September 4, 1916, Pfc. Witt spent most of his life in Nebraska, attending school in Thedford and Anselmo. Prior to entering service, he made his home in Sioux City for three years, living with his sister, Mrs. Louie Hartwig, 2404 11th street.
He joined the paratroops May 16, 1942, training at Camp Wolters, Tex.; Fort Benning, Ga.; and Alliance, Neb., before going overseas in December, 1943.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Hartwig; Mrs. Vinita Smith of Hastings, Ia.; Mrs. Opal Ankenman of Lebanon, Neb.; MRs. Margaret Marker of Alliance, Neb., and six brothers, Buel of Loretta, Neb.; Doyle of Chadron, Neb.; Lawrence, of Paxton, Neb.; Woodrow in the air force in Texas; Paul in the army at Camp Wolters, Tex., and Walter with the air force in India.
Memorial services will be announced later.

William H. “Cotton” Witt died Jan. 8, 1945 and is buried in Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg.
