SERVING UNCLE SAM
No. 1 of a Series
David Clair VanDyke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry VanDyke of Lime Springs, entered the U.S. Army under the selective service act on May 4, 1941. He received training at Camp Claiborne, La., where he was a member of a machine gun company in the infantry, Co. H. 133rd Infantry. While there he was awarded a medal for marksmanship with pistol.
The first part of January 1942, he was sent to Fort Dix, N. J. He is now with the American Expeditionary Forces in Ireland.
Clair, as he is known here, was born Oct. 13, 1919, on a farm nine miles west of Harmony, in Bristol township. He was graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1938. Previous to entering the Army, he was employed at the E. E. Evans & Son dairy farm.
