Pvt. C. E. Smith Killed in Action

Pvt. Clarence Edward Smith, 23, was killed in action Jan. 13, in Luxembourg, according to word received by friends here.

Private Smith, who was serving with company E of the 358th infantry division after four weeks’ training in the infantry, had been serving with the field artillery previously.

He came to this community at the age of 17 from Great Bend, Kan., and entered service three years ago. He was last employed as a farm hand in Orange township.

Clarence Edward Smith was born May 20, 1920 to Ambrose F. and Ira Beca McCubbins Smith. He died Jan. 13, 1945 and is buried in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, KS.
