Four Members of Shaw Family in Armed Forces

George Allen Shaw, signalman first class in the U. S. Navy, is in Muscatine for a visit with his mother, Mrs. George Shaw, 1550 Washington street, and other relatives.

Shaw has been in the Navy nearly four years, the past two years in the Pacific area, and has seen service at New Zealand, Australia and numerous other Pacific islands. This is his first home leave in nearly two years.

His father, George Shaw, is also serving in the Navy, with the rating of aviation machinist’s mate second class. He is on duty in the Pacific area. Two brothers are also in service. Pfc. Frank Shaw with the army air corps at Patterson, N. J., and Harold Shaw machinist’s mate first class, with the Navy in the English theater.

Harold Wayne Shaw, 24, Is Missing In Action

Harold Wayne Shaw, 24, fireman 2/c in the United States Navy, is missing in action, according to a message received today by his mother, Mrs. George J. Shaw, 2513 Valley street, Burlington.

Mrs. Shaw and children made their home here during last winter, residing at 1550 Washington street with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Vickers. Fireman Harold Wayne Shaw is a nephew of Mrs. Vickers.

He entered the service two years ago and was wounded in the African campaign. Upon his recovery he was sent back to the United States and assigned to shore patrol and only recently was sent back to sea duty.

His father, George J. Shaw, is an aviation machinist mate 2/c in the Navy and is somewhere in the South Pacific; George Allen Shaw, signalman 1/c, a brother, was home recently on leave and reported back Sunday to a new assignment at New Orleans, La.; and another brother, Pfc. Frank Edwin Shaw, is in the United States Army somewhere in the South Pacific.

George Jehiel Shaw was born Sept. 11, 1893 to Homer Edwin and Katherine Amanda Stevenson Shaw. He died Apr. 25, 1961 and is buried in Oakridgd-Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside, IL.

George served with the U.S. Army in World War I and the U.S. Navy in World War II. Three of his sons served in World War II. A fourth son, John Carl Shaw, served in Korea.
