Receives Order in Japan to Return to States for Discharge
With the 8th Army in Japan—T/3 Richard D. Schmidt, son of Mrs. Ida Schmidt, 930 8th S. E., Mason City, has received his order to return to the United States for discharge.
A clerk in the ordnance section of XI corps headquarters near Yokohama, Sgt. Schmidt was among the first of the sea-borne troops to land in Japan.
He was an employee of the C. M. & St. P. railroad before his army induction in December, 1944. His wife resides at 418 Jackson, N. W.
