Bodies From Pacific Area Arrive In U. S.
Two soldiers from Council Bluffs are included in the 2,012 war dead who have been returned to the United States from the Pacific area aboard the army transport Sgt. Jack J. Pendleton, the department of the army announced Tuesday.

Included aboard the army transport Sgt. Jack J. Pendleton are . . . Pvt. Norvin H. Sheffer (sic), next of kin Herman F. Sheffler (sic), Hancock.

S. W. Iowa Deaths
Norvan M. (sic) Scheffler
AVOCA – Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Blust-Berthusen funeral home at Avoca for returned war dead Norvan (sic) H. Scheffler, of Hancock. The Rev. O. C. Huff of Oakland will officiate. Burial will be in Hancock cemetery.
Scheffler, a marine, was wounded in the invasion of Okinawa May 9, 1945. He died May 10, 1945.
