A United States Troop Carrier Base, France.—Cpl Darwin K. Parker, 317 W. Sixth street, Sioux City, has won four bronze battle stars and his troop carrier squadron has been awarded the presidential unit citation at an airstrip in liberated France.

His unit was awarded the presidential citation for “outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy on June 5, 6, and 7, 1944…notwithstanding the fact there was no possibility of employing evasive action, the missions were accomplished by flying over water, through enemy antiaircraft fire and inclement weather, at dangerously low altitudes and air speeds to reach minute objectives.”

Cpl. Parker was inducted in the Army in December, 1942, and after receiving preliminary training at St. Petersburg, Fla., and Chanute field, Ill., was assigned to the troop carrier forces at Fort Benning, Ga. He left for overseas duty early in 1944. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. Parker, reside at the W. Sixth street address.
