The marriage of Miss Donna Hinman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hinman, route 6, and Pvt. Harold Paetz, 509 Kindler avenue, took place on Sunday, July 11, 1943, relatives here have learned.
B. W. Krentz, chaplain at Camp Callan, Calif., performed the double ring ceremony. The bridegroom’s mother and Pvt. Donald Weggen, cousin of the bridegroom, were the attendants.
The nuptial music was played by Sgt. Frank Rhees, and the selections included, “I Love You Truly,” “Melody in F,” “Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes,” “The Rosary,” and “Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms.” Lohengrin’s Wedding March was used as the processional.
The bride wore a powder blue traveling suit and her only jewelry was a locket, a gift of the bridegroom. She wore a corsage of gardenias.
Mrs. Paetz attended the Muscatine county rural schools, and the bridegroom received his education in the Muscatine schools. He was employed at the Roach and Musser Co. before entering the Army, May 11, 1943.
Mrs. Paetz is living with the bridegroom’s parents for the present, but will join her husband later.

PROMOTION MERITED—Mrs. Harold Paetz, 509 Kindler avenue, has received word that her husband, Harold Paetz, has been promoted to the rank of corporal. He is stationed somewhere in the South Pacific.
Cpl. Paetz has been in service one year and overseas for six months. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Paetz, 509 Kindler avenue.

Cpl. H. E. Paetz Sends Japanese Soldiers Articles
An interesting collection of Japanese articles, equipment of Jap fighting men, which he obtained while fighting with American forces in the Admiralty Islands, has been forwarded by Cpl. Harold E. Paetz, to his wife, Mrs. Donna Hinman Paetz and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Paetz, 509 Kindler avenue.
The articles, being displayed at The Journal, include a Jap helmet, cigarettes, a belt, a tooth brush, and other miscellaneous items.
Cpl. Paetz is wearer of the Purple Heart, awarded for shrapnel wounds in the faced suffered in action. He has been serving since May 11, 1943, and on foreign service since Nov. 29, 1943, going overseas shortly after his last furlough last September. He took his basic training at Camp Callan, Calif., and before entering service was employed by the Roach & Musser company.

COUSINS MEET AT LEYTE
Word has been received by relatives here that Cpl. Harold E. Paetz and Pfc. Charles W. Jacobs, cousins, met Dec. 7, 1944, at Leyte.
Cpl. Paetz, who is serving with an anti-aircraft artillery battalion, entered the service May 11, 1943. He received his training at Camp Callan and Fort Ord, Calif., going overseas Nov. 29, of that year. He was stationed for a time in Australia, later going to the Admiralty islands where he took part in the Battle of Los Negros. In October he was sent to the Philippines. His wife, Mrs. Donna Paetz and parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Paetz, reside at 509 Kindler avenue.
Pfc. Jacobs is serving with a medical unit. He entered the Army in April, 1942, receiving his training at Camp Grant, Ill. He was sent overseas in February, 1943, and was located at Australia and New Guinea before going to the Philippines. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davis, of Oakland, Calif., are former residents of Muscatine.

Neighbors, With Forces At Leyte, Enjoy Reunion
Two Muscatine men who were neighbors before entering army service held an enjoyable reunion recently on Leyte island in the Philippines, according to word received by their parents.
The men are Cpl. Robert J. Behrens, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Behrens, 517 Kindler avenue, and Cpl. Harold Paetz, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Paetz and husband of Mrs. Donna Paetz, 509 Kindler avenue.
Encountering each other by chance on Leyte, the men were able to spend Feb. 2 and 3 together. It was the first time Cpl. Behrens has seen anyone from home in two years.
