Sioux Cityan in India Awarded Air Medal and Clusters
S. Sgt. John F. Lynch, 23, radio mechanic and operator, on a B-29 Superfortress operating from a base in India, hs been awarded their air medal with two oak leaf clusters and the distinguished flying cross, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. (“Pat”) Lynch, 921 13th street, were informed by letter.
Sgt. Lynch was among those who made the first B-29 raid over Japan last June and now has a total of 420 combat and operational hours over targets in Japan, Singapore, Manchuria, and Thailand. He entered the service two and half years ago and has been based in India for more than 10 months.
He took radar training in Boca Raton, Fla., and radio training in Chicago.
He informed his parents that the India climate wasn’t too hard on him but for real living to “give him the good ole U.S.A.”

S. Sgt. John F. Lynch, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Lynch, 921 13th Street, veteran of 37 months of service in the army air forces, has been discharged at the Santa Ana, Cal., separation center. Serving as radar operator with the 20th air force in China, India and the Mariannas. Lynch was awarded the distinguished flying cross, the air medal with two clusters, distinguished unit citation and the Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with five battle stars.
