VETERAN FLIER DIES IN CRASH
Capt. Lind, Husband of Sioux Cityan, Killed at Dodge City
Capt. Robert Lind, 26, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Hagberg, 3509 Jackson street, was one of three fliers killed Sunday when their Marauder plane crashed and burned seven miles north of the Dodge City, Kan., airfield on a training flight. The men were stationed at Dodge City.
Capt. Lind with his wife, the former Helen Hagberg, spent a 21-day furlough visiting her parents here in January. He was enroute to his newly assigned base at Dodge City from Miami, Fla. Mrs. Lind accompanied him to Dodge City.
Capt. Lind returned to the United States last September after completing 67 missions including two missions on the first day of the invasion of France. He was pilot of a B-26 Marauder which made 100 missions over Europe and was based in England. He had been awarded the distinguished flying cross, the air medal with 11 oak leaf clusters and the European theater ribbon with two stars, one for attack before the invasion and one for the invasion.
He entered service in March, 1942, and was sent overseas in May, 1943. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Lind, live in Des Moines.
