Milton Archie Kimball

 

LISTED MISSING  

Seaman First Class Milton Archie Kimball has been reported missing in action since January when his ship was reported lost.  He is the son of Mrs. George Comstock, 1008 W. Seventh street, and his father, Archie Forrest Kimball, lives at Jefferson, S.D.

He attended public schools in Sioux City and was employed at Armour & Co. before entering service.  He entered service in March, 1943, and has been on sea duty for a year.

Milton Archie Kimball was born Mar. 20, 1925 to Archibald Forrest and Edith Belle Campbell Kimball. He died Dec. 28, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Kimball died at sea while serving as a member of the Armed Guard crew serving aboard the SS John Burke. His ship was traveling in convoy from Leyte to Mindoro, Philippine Islands when the Burke was attacked by enemy airplanes and the ship (loaded with ammunition) exploded. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
