Father, Son Enlist at Same Time; Boy is Firing Line First
DES MOINES, (AP) – Kenneth Kempton, 19, Des Moines youth who enlisted in the marines at the same time his father did, has beat dad to the firing lines.
His father, Chris J. Kempton, was made a sergeant and was stationed at Great Lakes, but Kenneth, a private and a machine gunner, wrote home a few days ago that he was one of the Americans who fought on the Solomon Islands.
Both of them enlisted at Des Moines, Feb. 23.
