Bosharts Preside At Farewell For Charles Herrick
High Prairie—Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Boshart entertained a group of relatives Sunday, as a farewell courtesy for Charles Herrick, of Muscatine, who today for the Army. Those attending the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Herrick and daughter, Marian, of Letts; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Herrick and son, Robert; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herrick and son, Gary; Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Herrick and Mrs. Eva Herrick, all of Muscatine; Roy Baker, Robert and Ronald Boshart of High Prairie.

GIVEN CORPORAL RANK.
Mrs. Charles L. Herrick, 1123 Logan street, has received word that her husband, PFC Charles L. Herrick, has been advanced to the rank of Corporal. He has been in service since Feb. 17. Cpl. Herrick is with the 345th infantry, Camp McKain, Miss.

Cpl. Charles L. Herrick, who has been stationed at Camp McKain, Miss., since he entered the service on Feb. 17, 1943, has been transferred to Ft. Jackson, S.C.
Cpl. Herrick left here this morning for his new base after spending a 12-day furlough with his wife and son, Gary, at 1123 Logan street, and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Herrick, 711 Newell avenue.

REACHES ENGLAND.
Mrs. Charles L. Herrick, 1123 Logan street, has received word that her husband, Cpl. Charles Herrick, has arrived safely in England. He entered the service in February, 1943, and trained with the infantry at Camp McCain, Miss., and Fort Jackson, S.C., before his embarkation from Fort George Meade, Md.

Cpl. C. Herrick, Suffers Wounds, Message States
Cpl. Charles L. Herrick was wounded in action while serving with the Fifth infantry division of the Third army according to a message received this morning from the War Department by his wife who resides at 1123 Logan street.
No details were given in the message other than he was making normal improvement following leg injuries suffered about Feb. 17th.

Award of Purple Heart is Made to Cpl. C. Herrick
Cpl. Charles L. Herrick, who is recovering in a hospital in France from battle injuries, has received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in Germany on Feb. 13. He was wounded in the left leg from mortar shell shrapnel while serving with the Red Diamond division of the Third Army.
Cpl. Herrick’s wife, who resides at 1123 Logan street, received word from the War Department last week that he was “making normal improvement.”
Attached to an infantry company, Cpl. Herrick entered the service in February, 1943, trained at Camp McCain, Miss., and at Ft. Jackson, S.C., before going to the embarkation point at Ft. Meade, Md.
Cpl. Herrick’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Herrick, 711 Newell avenue.

Charles Lanning Herrick was born July 10, 1918 to Arthur C. and Elsie Marie Nodine Herrick. He died Oct, 11, 1994 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine, IA.
