Iowa Soldiers Reported Missing
WASHINGTON (AP)—The War Department announced that the following Iowa soldiers were missing in action in the Mediterranean area:
Pvt. Donald R. Clark, Council Bluffs;
Pfc. Myron E. Dobbertin, Mason City;
Staff Sgt. Chester E. Fisher, Clinton;
Pfc. Frank J. Hempel, Davenport.

Frank Joseph Hempel, Jr. was born Aug. 5, 1916 to Frank J. (Sr.) and Laura Margaret Burmeister Hempel. He died Feb. 10, 1944 and is buried in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.
Pvt. Hempel served in World War II with the U.S. Army 133rd Infantry and was MIA/KIA n the North African area in the service of his country.
