IRETON—Wounded in Germany
2nd Lieut. George Drost was shot by a sniper after receiving shrapnel wounds in his back in giving aid to his buddy. He is in a hospital in Germany and is a son of Mrs. Bertha Walraven.

WINS COMMISSION ON BATTLEFIELD
T/Sgt. George Drost, son of Mrs. Bertha Walraven of Ireton, was awarded a battlefield commission as a second lieutenant while fighting with the 12th Armored Division on the 7th Army front, according to a dispatch to The Independent from the 7th Army publications office. Lt. Drost was a platoon sergeant in Company A, 17th Armored Infantry Division, at the time he received the commission. He has been reassigned to the same organization.

Lieut. George Drost arrived for a month’s visit with relatives. He will return to Okmulgee, Okla., where he is being treated for shrapnel wounds received in a battle with the Germans.
