MISSING IN ACTION --Sgt. Walter Dieterich of St. Ansgar, is reported missing in action, in Belgium since Dec. 18. He participated in the invasion of France, was wounded June 14, hospitalized in England and was awarded the purple heart. He was with an infantry division of the 2nd army under General Hodges. In the service 3 years, overseas one year.

Walter Luverne Dieterich was born Feb. 21, 1906 to Heinrich Christian and Ida Maria Treichel Dieterich. He died Jan. 22, 1977 and is buried in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Mitchell County, IA.
