DOUGHERTY GI DIES IN ACTION
Dougherty – Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, Sr., received word that their only son, Pvt. George Cook, jr., 18, was killed in action on Luzon May 19. He was in action but 16 days.
Besides his parents he leaves a sister, Marilyn.
The young soldier received his training in Camp Hood, Texas, and Camp Roberts, Cal. He was a graduate of the Greene high school.

Pvt. Cook Memorial Service
at West Fork Church Sunday
To Be Conducted at 2:30 P. M.
With Pastor and Legion in Charge
Dougherty – Memorial services for Pvt. George Cook, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, Sr., who was killed in action on Luzon on May 19, will be held at West Fork Evangelical church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Park Miller, pastor, and Breslin-Hogan American Legion post No. 354 of Dougherty. The church is located 4 miles south and 4 miles west of Dougherty.
Pvt. Cook was born in Chicago, Ill, on Sept. 5, 1926. He was graduated from the Greene high school in 1944. At the time of entering the service in Oct., 1944, he was associated with his father in the Tyden Feed and Livestock.
After 15 weeks of basic training at South Camp Hood, Tex., he was home on a 10-day delayed furlough enroute to Fort Ord, Cal., where he was stationed for 3 weeks before being shipped overseas. He was serving with Company B of the 152nd infantry regiment of the 38th division and had been in action 16 days when he met his death.
Besides his parents he is survived by his sister, Marilyn.

George Hobart Cook, Jr. was born Sept. 5, 1926 to George Hobart (Sr.) and Fern Ethel Coughenour Cook. He died May 19, 1945 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery, Iowa Center, IA.
Pvt. Cook served in World War II with the U.S. Army 152nd Infantry, 38th Division and was KIA on Luzon.
