IS CREW CHIEF OF CORSAIR FIGHTER
Sgt. L. A. (“Bud”) Casavant, crew chief of a Corsair fighter plane for the last 17 months in the central Pacific area, is spending a 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Casavant, 34 Blackstone avenue. He will report at Quantico, Va., for reassignment January 25.
Sgt. Casavant, stationed on the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, took part in the bombing of the Marshalls and was awarded the unit presidential citation for the occupation of the same. His Japanese souvenirs include hand grenades, money, ammunition, and souvenirs from Jap Zeros.
He wears the Asiatic-Pacific and the American theater campaign bars, and two stars representing the two major battles in which he participated.
Sgt. Casavant, formerly employed in the classified ad department of The Journal-Tribune, enlisted in the marines December 7, 1942, and received his combat training in the south Pacific about a year later. He is a graduate of Central high school.
