Sgt. Bulit Visits Parents on Furlough From Hospital
Sgt. Bill Bulit is spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Bulit, 2529 Leech avenue, after three and a half years in a Japanese prison camp.
He was captured on Bataan and was forced to walk 140 miles into the interior of Japan to work in the steel mills in Osaka until the prisoners were moved because of the severe bombings. From a camp in the mountains they were taken seven days a week to work in the shipyards unloading material for the Japanese.
Sgt. Bulit left Japan from Yokohama and arrived in the United States October 15. He was sent to Schick General Hospital at Clinton, where he will return after completing his furlough. He is a graduate of East high school and worked for Armour & Co. before entering the service in 1939.
He has received the presidential citation.
