LT. WAYNE BUCK, WASHTA PILOT, IS REPORTED MISSING
Cherokee Chief: Second Lieut. Wayne Buck, 27, an aviator, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Buck of Washta, is missing in action in the European theater of war, the adjutant general informed his parents Friday afternoon.
Lieut. Buck is the first Washta resident reported missing in the present war. He is the first plane pilot from this area to be reported lost in the European area.
Buck is believed to have been lost while on an aerial sweep over German-occupied Europe in May. The War Department telegram said he has been missing since May 21.
Lieut. Buck was in the United States air force and was stationed in England.

FOUR IOWANS REPORTED MISSING IN ACTION
Washington D. C. –(AP)—Four Iowans were reported missing in action in the European area Saturday by the War Department.
Those missing were Second Lt. Wayne L. Buck, Washta; First Lt. Norbert D. Koll, Mapleton; Tech. Sgt. James V. Shaw, Estherville; and Staff Sgt. Willard O. Simpson, Des Moines.

Wayne LeRoy Buck was born Feb. 15, 1916 to Roy Burton and Lula Mabel Fogleman Buck. He died May 31, 1943 and is buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, KY.
