Denver—Norbert A. Brandt, fire controlman, first class, is spending a 30-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brandt here. The last year Norbert has been on submarine duty in the Pacific theater of war. He enlisted in the Navy in February, 1940, and this is the first time he has been home since November, 1941. He formerly was stationed on a submarine tender.

Denver—A submarine combat patrol insignia, with two gold stars and one silver star, was received by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brandt here, awarded to their son, Norbert Brandt, fire controlman first class, who was reported missing in action last Mar. 28.  The submarine Trout on which he was stationed was reported missing last July.  The unit of the Trout, which was commanded by Lt. Cmdr. Albert H. Clark, of Orinda, Cal., had already received the Presidential Unit citation when it went on its last mission last January.  Norbert enlisted in February, 1940, and was home on leave in November, 1943.

Norbert Arthur Brandt was born Jan. 15, 1922 to Albert and Minnie Hesse Brandt. He died Feb. 29, 1944 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 5, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Brandt served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Trout (SS-202) which was sunk in the Philippines Basin. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
