William John Bower, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Bower, Fairacres, Leeds, has begun training at the naval training station, Farragut, Idaho.

Petty Officer William John Bower has returned from sea duty in the Carribean area, and is spending his leave visiting his mother, Mrs. M. W. Bower, 4436 Garfield street. He is a graduate of the Leeds high school Class of 1943 and has been in service one year. He received his boot training at Farragut, Idaho, and attended gunnery and aviation mechanics school at Norman, Okla., graduating last November. He took advanced training at Purcell, Okla., then joined his air crew and received his wings at Jacksonville, Fla. From here he will go to San Diego, Cal., for further orders.

IN UNIFORM.

Pvt. Elmer Dunning, stationed 29 months in the Aleutians, is spending a 10-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Alta M. Bower, 613 W. Second street.  He now is stationed at Camp Bowie, Tex. 

Three brothers are in the service.  Cpl. Lawrence Dunning is recovering from wounds in a hospital in New Guinea after serving 24 months in the South Pacific; Sgt. Clifford Dunning is stationed in California with the air corps; and Petty Officer William Bower, a half-brother, is in San Francisco after spending 10 months in the South Pacific in the Navy.

William John Bower was born Mar. 24, 1925 to Minton W. and Mabel Bunce Bower. He died Nov. 4, 2010 and is buried in Seaside Memorial Park, Corpus Christi, TX.
