Dies of Wounds in Italy Campaign
Mr. and Mrs. William E. Anderson, route 4, Glendale acres, have been notified by the war department that their son, Pvt. William R. Anderson, died of wounds received in Italy on May 28. A previous telegram stated that Pvt. Anderson had been “slightly wounded.”
Pvt. Anderson was inducted in July, 1943, receiving his infantry basic training at Camp Fannin, Tex. He was awarded the sharp-shooters medal, B.A.R. pin and machine gun medal while in camp. He was sent overseas in March 1944 where he was stationed first in Sicily and later Italy.
Born in Council Bluffs, Pvt. Anderson had lived in or near the city all his life. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson high school.

Three War Dead Back for Burial
All Returned from Italian War Zone
The bodies of three Pottawattamie county war dead have been returned to the United States from Italy aboard the army transport Lawrence Victory.

Pvt. William R. Anderson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Anderson, route 4, Council Bluffs. He died in Italy of wounds suffered in action May 28, 1944.
