Receives Purple Heart
Posthumous awards of the Purple Heart have been received by Mrs. M. E. Dixon, grandmother of S. Sgt. Gene Dixon, killed Dec. 15, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Anderson (sic), parents of Eugene Anderson (sic), fireman 1/c killed in Sicily August 6, 1943.

Return Navy Man Here for Burial
The body of Fireman 1/c Eugene P. Anderson, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Anderson, 412 South Twenty-second street, is en route from Europe aboard a U. S. army transport ship for burial in Council Bluffs.
He was killed in action in Sicily on August 6, 1943.
Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Allen and Miss Leona Andersen, both of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Norman C. Andersen and Roger L. Andersen, both of Council Bluffs.
Meyer funeral home will be in charge.

Obituaries
EUGENE P. ANDERSEN
Fireman First Class Eugene P. Andersen, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Andersen of 412 South Twenty-second street, will arrive in Council Bluffs Monday afternoon and will lie in state at the Meyer funeral home. He was killed in action in Sicily on August 6, 1943.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. (article appeared in August 1, 1948, issue of Council Bluffs Nonpareil,) in the Meyer Chapel. The Rev. M. D. Summerbell, pastor of the Epworth Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn cemetery. Members of VFW Post No. 737 will conduct military rites.
Other survivors include two sisters: Mrs. Juanita Allen and Miss Leona Andersen; two brothers, Norman C. Andersen and Roger L. Andersen, all of Council Bluffs.
