Robert Edmon Batten was born Sept. 6, 1926 to James Moroni and Margaret York Marshall Batten. He died July 30, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA. He is also remembered at the USS Indianapolis Memorial.
Petty Officer Batten served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) and was MIA/KIA in the sinking of that ship. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

John Stanley Benway was born Nov. 5, 1918 to Harry Lester and Mary Daugherty Benway. He died Nov. 3, 1947 and is buried in Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, IA.
Sgt. Benway served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations.

Richard McMasters Blanchard was born Mar. 24, 1914 to Harry Blaine and Dora Mae McMasters Blanchard. He died Feb. 9, 1949 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Lt. Blanchard served in World War II with the U.S. Navy.
As Chief Petty Officer, Blanchard was among a group of 32 enlisted and four officers from a Navy radio intelligence unit evacuated from Corregidor the night of Mar. 16, 1942 aboard the submarine USS Permit (SS-178). The group made its way to Melbourne, Australia, to continue its mission against the Japanese Navy. Chief Blanchard was commissioned an ensign and reached the rank of lieutenant before succumbing to a heart ailment on Guam.

Willard Clair (Buzz) Buzzard was born May 4, 1923 to Carl R. and Hilma Olive Nelson Buzzard. He died Nov.20, 2017 in CA.
Lt. Buzzard served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps. He also served in Korea.
