Earl S. Sayer was born Aug. 19, 1914 to Christopher Robert and Augusta Martina Gabrielson Sayer. He died Dec. 31, 1942/FOD Dec. 31, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and has a cenotaph in Eldora City Cemetery, Eldora, IA.
Sgt. Sayer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 432nd Bomber Squadron, 17th Bomber Group, Medium and was MIA/KIA as a crew member on a B-26 aircraft which was badly damaged by intense anti-aircraft and gunfire from enemy fighter planes, while on a bombing mission over Gabes, Tunisia. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
