Gerald W. Goldsborough, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Goldsborough, 215 W. 34th Street, has been promoted to seaman first class. He is serving in the Aleutian Islands.
Pvt. Eugene T. O”Connor, whose sister, Mrs. Alice Mullaney, lives at 2125 Summit Street, is a rifleman in Italy with the 338th infantry regiment which has been credited with killing and wounding hundreds of Germans and taking nearly 700 prisoners in four weeks of cold, bitter fighting in the Gothic line.
Sgt. Robert Atwood of the air base at Alexandria, La., is spending a 15-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Atwood, 514 W. 15th Street.
T. Sgt. Donald O. Abker, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Abker, 1401 W. Sixth Street and his wife and son are spending a furlough with his parents here. He has just returned from England where he was a radio-gunner on a B-17 in the Eighth air force. He has the presidential citation with one oak leaf cluster and the air medal with four clusters. After his furlough he will go to California where he will be reassigned.
M. Sgt. J.A. St. Onge, son of Dr. and Mrs. J.A. St Onge, 1015 Ninth Street, who is taking part in the battle for the Philippines as a sergeant major of a combat engineer squadron in the First Calvary division, has been awarded the bronze star medal for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy during the Admiralty islands campaign. Sgt. St. Onge has three brothers in the army, Capt. Arthur P. and Capt Hubert L. St Onge, in Italy and St. John F. St Onge, in New Guinea. A graduate of Central High School, Sgt St. Onge also attended Nebraska State Teachers College from which he was graduated in 1932. His wife is living in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mex. Before joining the army in 1938 Sgt. St Onge worked for a petroleum corporation there.
Sgt. Gilbert E. Adams has returned to the States after 30 months in Alaska. After spending a 30-day furlough with his wife at Reliance, S.D, he has gone to Kelly field, Texas for reassignments. Mrs. Adams, who resided in Sioux City a number of years, is the former Vera Lanyon.
Pvt. Donald F. Molden, stationed with the field artillery at Camp Roberts, California, is spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Molden, 2640 S. Lemon Street.
Dwain R. Fick, aviation radioman second class, who with his wife spent a short leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fick, 1509 27th Street, has returned to duty at Pensacola, Florida.
