Paul A. Schmitz, coxswain in the navy, is expected to arrive home for a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J.P Schmitz, 3131 Summit Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harshfield of Meckling, South Dakota have received word of the safe arrival in Northern Ireland of their son, Staff Sergeant Stuart Harshfield. He left Sioux City with the National Guard and was stationed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana and Fort Dix, New Jersey. Another son, Private Keith Harshfield, has been transferred from Camp Callan, California to Camp Davis, North Carolina, where he is taking special electrical training. The Harshfield family formerly resided here.

John F. Donahoo, son of Mrs. Frank Gansemer, 1212 Wall Street and Walter R. Bradley, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bradley, 1213 14th Street, have enlisted in the navy. They left recently for the Great Lakes training station.

Sergeant Bernard Borger, who left with the National Guard for Camp Claiborne in 1941 has been transferred to Camp Polk, Louisiana and is at home visiting his mother, Mrs. Laura Borger, 207 ½ Perry Street and other relatives.

After visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. JL. Ruthroff, 1711 George Street, Clyde L. Ruthroff has departed for Corpus Christi, Texas where he will be a radio instructor in the navy. He has been attending the radio school at Washington, D.C.

Private Raymond J. Hodgins at Fort Riley, Kansas, who is training for military police, spent the weekend at his home at 814 Jennings Street.

8 In Ireland:
Mrs. Lillian McKnight, 1903 ½ S. Patterson Street, has received word that her son, Sergeant Vernon McKnight has arrived safely in Northern Ireland. Another son, Melvin, a lieutenant in the army air corps, has been missing since the fall of Corregidor where he was stationed.

With The A.E.F. -
Mr. and Mrs. George Hovas, 1003 Court Street, have received word from their son, Charles, who is stationed somewhere in Great Britain. Charles was with the second convoy of American troops to go across.

Soldier Promoted:
Private Robert J. Goode of Sioux City has been promoted from the rank of private to technician, fifth grade, in the 301st ordnance regiment, stationed at Camp Sutton, North Carolina The 301st ordnance regiment recruited by the automobile dealers of the nation for overseas service in the maintenance of equipment and operation of supply depots is nearing completion of basic military training at Camp Sutton.

Promoted To Sergeant:
Lewis S. Weinberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lipman Weinberg, 112 24th Street, has been promoted from technician to the rank of staff sergeant in the army. He is being transferred from Fort Knox, Kentucky to Fort Riley, Kansas.

In Intelligence Corps:
Robert C. LaCroix, formerly of Sioux City, son of Charles LaCroix of Fort Thompson, South Dakota, who has been stationed with the army at Camp Bowie, Texas, has been transferred to the intelligence department and is attached to the headquarters at Camp Bowie.

With The A. E. F.

Ferdinand T. Volkert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Volkert, Cushing, Iowa completed a 16-week course Wednesday in the school for aviation machinist’s mates, thus preparing himself to take his place with the specialists who help to make the United States Navy the most efficient in the world.

Ferdinand T. Volkert was selected for the service school because of his record in the series of aptitude tests given to all blue-jackets during their recruit training.

Ferdinand T. Volkert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Volkert of Cushing, has completed a 16-week course in the school for aviation machinist’s mates at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Volkert was selected for the service schools because of his record in the series of aptitude tests given to all blue-jackets during their recruit training.

Three former residents of Sioux City have completed 16-weeks courses at the navy service schools at Great Lakes, Illinois. The names of the graduates are Charles E. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor, 722 Clark Street, who graduated from the school of quartermasters-signalmen: William J. Coughlin, 2805 Myrtle Street, who also graduated from the school for quartermasters-signalmen and Carl M. Nelson, husband of Mrs. Dorothy Nelson of 1506 Pierce Street, who graduated from the school for yeomen.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Altimus, 3316 Seventh Avenue, have returned from Wichita Falls, Texas where they visited their son, Carl, Jr. in training at Shepard field. He is taking a mechanic’s course which he will complete in about three weeks.

Advanced Training
Goodfellow Field, San Angelo, Texas—With his graduation from this basic flying school, Aviation Cadet Vincent L. Peters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Peters, of Boyden, Iowa, this week enters the last lap of his flight training before being commissioned as a flying lieutenant in the fighting army air corps.
Cadet Peters now moves on to an advanced flying school where he will learn to handle the faster, more powerful warships of America’s growing sky armada.

Completes Course
Private Irvin Lunin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lunin, 2260 Rebecca Street, Sioux City, recently was graduated from the Chanute Field School of the army air forces technical training command. While at Chanute Field he had been undergoing training in various technical operations vital to the maintenance of the country’s fighting planes.

Receives Commission
Camp Lee, Virginia—Corporal Mathias J. Schon, Jr., of Hawarden, Iowa, was graduated on July 3, 1942; from the officer candidate course of the quartermaster school located at Camp Lee, Virginia and received a commission as a second lieut. in the army of the United States.

Near Graduation
Jonathan W. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Brown, 4206 Country Club, has entered the last lap of his flight training before being commissioned as a flying lieut. in the army air corps. Cadet Brown moved to an advanced flying school from the basic flying school at Goodfellow Field, San Angelo, Texas

Seeks Commission
Private Dale W. Kern, 1905 W. Sixth Street, will leave the field artillery replacement center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to attend the officer candidate school at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he will take a course in the duties of a field artillery officer. If he passes the course he will receive a second lieutenant’s commission in the field artillery.

Sheldon, Iowa – Special: A former Sheldon High School coach, Eldon Pederson, has just been promoted to lieut. and is stationed at Camp Forrest, Tennessee with a division of combat engineers.

At Officers School
Corporal Norman C. Arnold of Sergeant Bluff has been transferred from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to officer’s candidate school at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he will be stationed for the next three months in preparation for commissioning as a second lieut.

Joins Navy Air Force
Leslie H. Davisson, 217 19th Street, has been enlisted in the navy for flight training, the navy aviation cadet selection board announced at Minneapolis. Davisson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Davisson of Rock Valley, Iowa, expects to be ordered to duty in August at the Iowa City preflight school.

Navy Radio Operator
Harold M. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A Roberts, 715 Isabella Street, who was graduated from the naval radio school at Stillwater, Oklahoma, has been sent to Corpus Christi, Texas as radioman, third class, attached to naval aviation. He has been in service since August 1941.

Paul Tope, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tope, 911 S. Mulberry Street, is in training at the aviation radio trade school at the Jacksonville, Florida Naval Station. He was selected on the basis of competitive examinations at the Great Lakes, Illinois Naval Training Station, where he had been training for two months.

Marine Promoted
Kenneth LeRoy Sutherland, son of Mrs. Lucille Allen, 2004 Rustin Street, has been promoted to private, first class, in the Marine Corps at Maui, Hawaiian Island. Mr. Sutherland enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1941.

Upped To Sergeant
Corporal Harold A. Walters, formerly of Pierson, Iowa has been promoted to the grade of sergeant at the Columbia army air base, Columbia, South Carolina, according to an announcement Monday by his commanding officer. Sergeant Walters, son of Floyd A. Walters, entered the army air force July 24, 1941 He is an administrative clerk at the air base.

Lindblom, 1303 27th Street, Tuesday were sworn into the United States Coast Guard service in Omaha, after enlisting recently. Mr. Skrable, who married Miss Catherine Sullivan on June 20, was night sports editor of The Journal. Mr. Lindblom was an accountant at the Wincharger Corporation.

Aviation Cadet Advanced
Cadet Loran W. Macy, son of Mrs. Mary Brady, Danbury, has been advanced to the upper class of aviation cadets at the army air base, Perrin field, Texas, after four weeks of basic flight training.

Named Corporal

Cadet Everett N. Delashmutt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dell E. Dalashmutt, 1801 24th Street, was graduated this week to the upper class of aviation cadets at the army air base at Perrin field, Texas, after completing four weeks of basic flight training.

Jerry Buckley, who is in the United States Navy and took part in the Coral Sea Battle, is spending a 30-day furlough with his father, H. M. Buckley, 2500 Center Street. Mr. Buckley was also stationed at Pearl Harbor and saw activity there.

Although it bears the marks of war, Honolulu still is a nice place, Surgical Technician Wilmer Frazier wrote in a letter from the army base there to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Frazier, 2726 Home Street. He also praised the army setup at Honolulu and adds that he is “o.k.”

Air Instructor
Gale F. Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hanson, 3811 Peters Avenue, has entered the cadet aviation detachment as a trainee instructor at Randolph field, Texas. Before his entrance into army service he was an instructor in civilian pilot training at Vermillion. He is a graduate of Kemper Military academy and received his aviation instruction at Morningside College and the Cedar Rapids Aviation School.

Wins Promotion
First Class Private Hugh W. Adams, 2800 Memorial Drive, has been promoted to technician, fifth grade, at Key field, Mississippi, to which he recently was transferred from Selfridge field, Michigan. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Adams of Washta, Iowa. Before his enlistment he was a commercial artist.

Flight Training
Two Sioux Cityans will be among the 30 men ordered to report July 16 at the Wold-Chamberlain Airport at Minneapolis for preliminary flight training. They are Robert Drew Kass, 3014 Pierce Street and Sibley Benton Newman, 2839 Summit Street.

Private John H. Larsen, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Larsen, Sr., 2619 Prospect Street, was graduated recently from the Chanute field school of the army air forces technical training command.

On Furlough
Gordon Woolridge, fireman second class, United States Navy, is spending a five-day furlough in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Woolridge, 2111 McKinley Street. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor on a tender when the bombing occurred. Since April he has been stationed on the east coast.

Soldier Promoted
Fred J. Lohr, 712, 29th Street, has been promoted to the position of technician fourth grade, with the title of sergeant, and has been assigned to the army post-office at headquarters company, Fort Shafter, in the Hawaiian Islands.

Made Sergeant
Patrolman A. A. Buchino has been informed that a brother, Frank, stationed at a Salinas, California air base has been made sergeant. He enlisted about 18 months ago in the air corps. He was employed here by the Illinois Central railroad.

High Rating
Norman John McLeod, a son of Mrs. Bertha McLeod and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McLeod, 1514 Summitt Street, was given an exceptionally high physical rating on his recent examination for army service. A senior in mechanical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Norman graduated from Trinity High School here and also attended Trinity College. He recently left for training at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

To Become Officer
Sergeant Michael Skolosky, on a 24-hour leave in Sioux City, is one of 50 men chosen from the Seventh corps area for officers training course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was stationed in the medical corps at Fort Francis Warren, Wyoming. He is on his way to Fort Benning where he will receive officers training for the infantry. Sergeant Skolosky is visiting with his wife at the Sydney apartments.

Home On Furlough
Jerry Buckley, who is in the United States Navy, is home on furlough visiting his father, H.M. Buckley, 2500 Center Street. He also will be guest of an aunt, Mrs. Mayme O’Neil, 310 W, Eighth Street, at a picnic of the Daughters of Union Veterans at 12:30 o’clock this afternoon in Riverside Park. Jerry’s grandfather was a civil war veteran.

Technical Instructor

Sergeant Owen Osborn has returned to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri after spending a week-end furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Osborn, 3702 Sixth Avenue. Mr. Osborn is a technician in the hospital at Fort Leonard Wood.

Appointed Corporal
A former police reporter for The Journal, Norman Agathon, has been appointed corporal at the antiaircraft training center at Fort Eustis, Virginia and assigned to the personnel department. He also worked for the International News service in Washington.

Byrl Behrens of Westfield, Iowa, an enlistee in the navy, left July 7 for training at the Great Lakes Station. Corporal Gordon E. Behrens, a brother, is stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.

Kirkendall was graduated July 3 from the aviation school at Kelly field, Texas.

Lieut. R. E. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. G G. Wilson, 5301 Perry Creek Road, has been transferred from Napier field, Dothan, Alabama to Dale Mabry field, Tallahassee, Florida. The lieutenant is in the army air corps.

Royce, has reported to the naval training school at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana for training as a naval electrician.

Yanney, in the air force training school at Victorville, California enjoys reading The Journal at the post library because of the news on local activities; he has written editors of The Journal. Robert K. Laufer, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Laufer, 3410 Virginia Street has enlisted in the navy and is at the naval training station at Great Lakes, Illinois.

John F. Bundy, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Bundy, 2717 S. Glass Street, has been advanced to the rank of lieutenant, according to a dispatch received here Friday. Lieut. Bundy has been attached to the naval air station at Corpus Christi, Texas since April 1941, where he serves as an instructor.

John Arthur Bogen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Bogen, 701 20th Street, has enlisted for training as a naval aviator. He is expected to be ordered to duty at the Minneapolis base in September 1942. Mr. Bogen attended Trinity High School here where he was active in intramural sports and boxing.

Jack R. Stickels, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Stickels, 921 22d Street, was sworn in at the naval academy at Annapolis Friday. Stickels is a graduate of Central High School and attended Iowa State College at Ames.

Three Promotions
A former Sioux Cityan, R. B. Hammer, son of Mrs. Lizzie Stephenson of Moville, has been promoted three times in the navy within 13 months. Hammer, stationed at the Philadelphia navy yard, enlisted in June, 1941, as an apprentice seaman. He first was promoted to yeoman, second class, then to petty officer, third class. He will receive his rating as petty officer, second class, in August.

Home On Furlough
Lorin C. Phenis, first class petty officer, is spending a furlough with his mother, Mrs. Florence Phenis, 416 12th Street. Phenis has been in the navy six years and has spent much of that time in the Canal Zone.

Trains For Commission
Staff Sergeant Jack Stitt, son of Mrs. June Stitt, 5300 Fourth Avenue, attached to the tank division at Camp Hood, Texas, has been ordered to Waco, Texas for a 13-week officers training course. Before his assignment to Camp Hood he was stationed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.

George Van Hazel, 1424 W. Fourth, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant; it was announced today at the field artillery replacement training center at Camp Roberts, California.

A former Sioux Cityan, Hugh Hagan, naval pharmacist’s mate, third class, has been assigned to duty at the navy hospital at Great Lakes, Illinois. Hagan, who enlisted July 13, was supervisor of the operating room at Alexian Brothers Male Hospital at St. Louis, Missouri, last year.

Arrives Overseas
Private Joseph Baranowski has arrived safely “somewhere oversea.” That was the information contained in a letter from him to his wife, who lives at 410 W. Third Street.

Sailor Promoted
Stanley Meierstein has been promoted to first class petty officer and is stationed in Philadelphia. His wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meierstein, reside at 2941 Washington Street. He has been in the navy six years.

Stationed In Ireland
Corporal Brenton Lamb, son of Mrs. Nettie Lamb, 610 Wesley Way, is stationed with Uncle Sam’s army in Ireland, according to a letter received Wednesday from him by his mother. It was the first word that she heard from him since last April. Also in Sioux City is a sister, Mrs. Edward Manderscheid, 2919 Edmunds Avenue.

To Be Mechanic
Private Allen J. Strong, son of Wilbur M. Strong of Sioux City, recently began the airplane mechanics course at the army air base at Lincoln. Private Strong, on graduation will be rated as a fully qualified airplane mechanic and will be assigned to a permanent air force squadron for active duty.

Walter Page, 4240 Tyler Street, has been transferred from Camp Barkley, Texas to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He has been assigned to the laboratory technician’s school.

Corporal Oscar Runyon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Runyon, 610 ½ Court Street, who has been serving with the A. E. F. in Ireland, has volunteered as a commando and is training in Scotland.

Mrs. Byrnes A. Johnson, 2417 Center Street, has received a cablegram from her husband, Private B. A. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Johnson of Morningside, saying that he has arrived safely in Great Britain.

Edward F. Hendriks, son of Mrs. Fred Hendriks, 2721 Dodge Avenue, has completed a three-day leave which he spent visiting here. He recently was graduated from officers candidate school, Camp Lee, Virginia and has been commissioned a second lieut. He is attached to the quartermaster corps of the air corps at Duncan field, Texas. He departed for his post Monday.

Corporal Oscar Runyon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Runyon, 610 ½ Court Street, who has been serving with the A. E. F. in Ireland, has volunteered as a commando and is in training in Scotland.

Mrs. Byrnes A. Johnson, 2417 Center Street, has received a cablegram from her husband, Private B. A. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Johnson of Morningside, saying that he has arrived safely in Great Britain.

Wins Commission
Lieut. Edward F. Hendriks, son of Mrs. Fred Hendriks, 2721 Dodge Avenue, has completed a three-day leave which he spent visiting here. He recently was graduated from officer’s candidate school, Camp Lee, Virginia and has been commissioned a second lieutenant. He is attached to the quartermaster corps of the air corps at Duncan field, Texas.

Spends Furlough Here
Private First Class Robert L. Bradburry, Jr. of Stockton, California, recently spent a five-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bradburry, 210 W. 16th Street.

Assigned To Infantry
Private Benjamin F. Cooper, a former resident in the L. H. Taylor home, 2621 28th Street, has been assigned to the infantry at Camp Carson, Colorado.

Leo P. Smith, son of Mrs. Bertha Smith, 4206 Harrison Street, has been promoted to the rank of corporal at the signal corps replacement center at Camp Crowder, Missouri. Corporal Smith was inducted into the army last March 24.

Receive Commissions
Two Sioux Cityans, Corporal Edward F. Hendricks, 2721 Dodge Avenue and Corporal John L. Schott, Jr. 2910 Nebraska Street, have been graduated from the officer candidates course of the quartermaster school at Camp Lee, Virginia and received commissions as second lieutenants in the army.

Francis Free, son of Fred H. Free, 3106 Valley Drive, has been promoted from first lieutenant to captain at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts. Capt Free began active service last November.

In a picture in the Cannoneer’s Post, weekly newspaper of the field artillery at Camp Roberts in California appears O. F. Albright, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Albright, Merrill, Iowa. The picture shows the soldiers as they stepped up to receive the first $50 under the recent pay enacted by congress. Private Albright is shown counting his cash while other soldiers are awaiting their names to be called.

Arrives In England
Jack Mangold, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Mangold, formerly of Sioux City, has arrived in England, a cablegram received by his parents revealed. Jack is employed by an aircraft company.

Completes Course
Carl F. Altimus, Jr. a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Altimus, 3314 Seventh Avenue, was graduated recently from a aviation mechanics course at Sheppard Field in Texas. The field, near Wichita Falls, is one of many army air forces technical training command schools which trains ground crews to “Keep ‘Em Flying.”

Second Lieut. James F. Toy, 20, son of Mrs Carleton B. Toy, 1914 Jackson Street, received orders Saturday to report for active army duty at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. Lieut. Toy is in the infantry. After completing his first year of college at Kenyon College, Gambier, O., Lieut. Toy came home for a five-week visit and returned to school when his call for a physical examination came. He reported in Omaha and has been waiting here for several weeks for the order to report for duty. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Kenyon. Lieut. Toy was graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in 1941 where he was cadet major of the battalion.

F. Gilbert Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A Jones of 1225 17th Street has been promoted to sergeant in the army medical corps, his parents have been informed. He is stationed in Panama.

Four more Sioux Cityans have arrived at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station to begin recruit training. They are Robert K. Lanfer, 19, 3410 Virginia Street; Leonard E. Schonrock, 20, son of John Schronrock, 1115 Logan Street; Robert W. Jorgensen, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Jorgensen, 802 17th Street and Duane L. Hilburn, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Hilburn, 106 Oakland Street.

In Armored Force
Private James F. Legg, son of Mrs. Lulu L. Legg, 1413 11th Street, has begun a basic training course at the armored force replacement center at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Named Sergeant
Marion E. Schertz of Sioux City has been promoted to the rank of sergeant technician fourth grade, at Camp Sutton, North Carolina. Sergeant Schertz is attached to an ordnance unit recruited by automobile dealers of the nation.

Soldier Transferred
Private Arthur DeLaughter has been transferred from Camp Blenning, Florida to Delworth, North Carolina, his mother, Mrs. Lyda DeLaughter, 1615 Court Street, said today.

Sergeant In A. E. F.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wagner, 1806 S. Palmetto Street, have received a letter from their son, Ray, who is with American troops in Northern Ireland. He informed them that he had been promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.

Jerry Sauntry, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Sauntry, 1717 Pierce Street, now in training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, has received a second class pharmacist rating.

Capt. Ernest D. Epstein, flight surgeon in the ninth photographic squadron, arrived in Karachi, India, word was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Epstein, 3525 Vine Avenue. The wires stated, “Quite well, don’t worry.” Capt. Epstein left Biloxi, Mississippi May 29 and this was the first word his parents had received from him. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa medical school and was an interne at Cedars of Lebanon hospital in Los Angeles and Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago before enlisting in the army in August of 1940.

Lieut. Daniel R. Behn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Behn, Battle Creek, Iowa has been promoted to captain. He is with the 48th field artillery at Camp San Luis Obispo, California.

Private Fred C. Hansen, Jr. returned Monday to San Diego marine base, after spending a 15-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Fred L. Pittman, 627 Fourth Street.

Arthur Hafits, enlisted member of the antitank corps at Camp Barkley, Texas, has been promoted to sergeant after four months service in the army. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hafits, 1419 Virginia Street. Also he is a twin brother of Clifford Hafits, stationed in the air corps at Chanute field, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Hafits have two other sons in the service.

Corporal Raymond M. Murphy, son of Mrs. Mary R. Herman, has been admitted to the army air forces officer candidate school, the first of its kind, at Miami Beach, Florida. He will study administrative, personnel and supply duties and on graduation in 12 weeks, he will be commissioned a second lieutenant

Bernard Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. B Sullivan, 310 13th Street, has been promoted to pharmacist’s mate, third class, at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He is a graduate of Trinity College and enlisted four months ago.

Lieut. John K. L. Maynard was graduated July 25 from the army air technical training school Lowry field, Colorado. He is the son of Mrs. Howard Maynard, 2214 S. St. Aubin Street.

Corporal Raymond C. Kozalowski of Sioux City has been promoted to sergeant at the army airbase at Salt Lake City, Utah, it has been announced by Col. Hubert V. Hopkins, base commander.

Sergeant Arlo James Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dunn, 112 Casselman Street has been promoted to staff sergeant at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and transferred to Camp Swift, Texas, where he will be attached to the medical corps. Sergeant Campbell enlisted in Sioux City more than two years ago.

Is Radioman
Albert Victor McKnight, 30, son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. McKnight, 1128 S. Cornelia Street, enlisted for service in the navy July 25, at Salt Lake City. He will serve as a radio technician, second class and is at present on the west coast.

In Indiana
Corporal Technician Emmett R. Anderson, son of Mrs. Catherine Anderson, 2424 W. Third Street, has been assigned to the 83d division, Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

In Parachute Corps
Private Joseph M. Foye, Jr. son of Mrs. Gertrude Frye, 816 20th Street, received his preliminary training in the United States army parachute corps at Camp Roberts, California. Private Foye enlisted here June 30.

Corporal Curtis J. Fallon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Fallon, 1315 19th Street, has been accepted for infantry officer’s candidate school and now is training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He is to be graduated in October. Corporal Fallon entered the service in April, 1941.

Joins Armored Division
Ely H. Maresch, 2104 Boies Street, has enlisted in the maintenance service of an armored division in the United States army and has left for training at Camp Perry, Ohio. Mr. Maresch formerly was an employe of the International Harvester Company here. Mrs. Maresch and four children will reside in Sioux City for the present.

Promoted To Sergean
In a letter from her husband, Mrs. Ralph Trapp, 3512 Third Street Avenue, learned that he has been promoted to sergeant with the A.E.F. in Northern Ireland. Sergeant Trapp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Trapp, 1007 16th Street.

Inducted Into Service
Clarence C. Solomon, 1510 Isabella Street, former employe of The Journal, has been inducted into the army and is at the Fort Bliss reception center, according to word received here.

Ends Furlough
Lieut. (J.G.) Lowell C. Kindig, who has had charge of naval gunners aboard a merchant ship, left here Thursday after spending a two-week leave spent visiting in Sioux City and Howards, South Dakota. Mrs. Kindig left for Howard, where she is living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew White, while her husband is in service.
Lieut. Kindig was awarded a promotion from the rank of ensign when he was granted leave. He will return to the armed guard station at the Brooklyn Navy Yard for reassignment to sea duty. Lieut. Kindig a former attorney here is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Kindig, 3800 Ridge Avenue.

To Be Officer
Sergeant R. Dwayne (Koup) Kuhns of O’Reilly General Hospital at Springfield, Missouri has been transferred to the ordnance officer’s candidate school, Aberdeen proving grounds, Maryland, for a three-month course being assigned to permanent duty. Sergeant Kuhns enlisted in the quartermaster division two years ago and has been stationed at Fort Omaha and Springfield. Mrs. Kuhns will return to Omaha to reside with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Burnap, while he is away.

Here on Furlough
Walter Roberts is spending a nine day furlough from the Great Lakes Naval Training Station with his mother, Mrs. Harry Roberts, 1619 Sixth Street.

In Honolulu
Howard W. Nash, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Nash, 3270 Fourth Street, is stationed at Honolulu, according to word received by his parents; Nash joined the navy as a ship-fitter in December.
