The Bee launched an ambitious circulation drive. A prize of a new automobile or $500 will be awarded to the contestant with the highest total subscription sales. Two hundred dollars will go to the second high salesman and bonus commissions given to third to sixth place winners. All solicitors will receive a commission of 20% on their sales. Four prominent citizens—Ward Allen, Mel Sattre, L. H. Frerich and Cornell Riveland—agreed to count the ballots and stand as judges of the contest.

Kathleen Peyer was declared the winner with 28,190,850 points. Mrs. B. C. Nesvik was second; Dolly Broghammer, third; and Mrs. O. L. Gunderson, fourth.

The final distribution of 26% on the trust certificates, held by depositors of the Citizens State Bank since the Roosevelt bank holiday, was made by the trustees. This payment brings the return on frozen deposits to 106%.

Dr. J. P. Schneberger was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Master Breeders Club for his display of crossbred birds and animals exhibited at the Fur, Fin and Feather show in Chicago. His entries included white raccoons, pheasant-chicken crosses and hybrid coyote-terrier pups.

Schneberger's exhibit, at the International Poultry Exposition held in 1941, brought these comments by the Chicago Tribune; "...Dr. Schneberger*s pride and joy..., (the) Silverneck pheasant-chicken cross, silverpenciled varieties, are stealing the show...at the International Amphitheatre...(the dentist from Ossian) is also showing a fourth generation hybrid, which he calls the golden-lady amherst pheasant buff cochin bantam cross, and a cross between a blue peacock and a pearl guinea hen."

The Interstate Power Company voluntarily reduced electric rates an average of 8 % to their customers. They offer three-way lamps for sale at $6.95.

Becker Hardware advertised many specials during National Hardware Week. Among the items on sale were; enameled pail—59¢; broom—29¢; coaster wagon—$2.69; alarm clock—89¢; 14" pipe wrench—69¢; mop sticks—9¢; pliers—9¢; toweling—9¢; and four rolls of toilet tissue plus a Cannon towel—23¢.

The Ossian Pharmacy offered; tooth paste—12¢; 60 watt bulbs—9¢; handkerchiefs —4¢ ; fly ribbon—4¢ ; and pocket watches—89¢.

Gunderson Department Store listed; candy—9¢ lb.; salmon—2 cans for 25¢; peas—3 cans for 25¢; and coffee—3 lbs for 49¢.

Schroeder Clothing had; dress shirts—98¢; house slippers—98¢; and aprons —59¢ O. E. H. Anderson advertised; gloves—98¢; flannel shirts—89¢; wool caps— 79¢; and pillows—98¢. Collins Cash Grocery offered; bananas—4 lbs. for 19¢; and grapefruit—25¢ a dozen.
