Rake
Private 1st Class US Marine Corps
Born April 6, 1948. Died December 15, 1967 in South
Vietnam
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Perez
|
Pfc Perez was posthumously awarded the
Silver Star, the third highest award a Marine
may receive. The citation presented with the
Silver Star noted that Pfc. Perez was with
his platoon when it ran into a North
Vietnamese unit. As his platoon was advancing
to search for weapons and documents, it ran
into an ambush of a superior number of the
enemy. Perez exposed himself to intense enemy
fire when he went to rescue a comrade. After
obtaining medical aid for the Marine, Perez
returned for another wounded Marine,
continuing to fire his rifle, resulting in
the killing of several enemy soldiers before
he was killed by heavy enemy fire. His
courageous actions resulted in saving the
life of a Marine, in the highest tradition of
the Marine Corps.
