Sandyville Cemetery History

SANDYVILLE CEMETERY is located in the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter and the northwest quarter of the southwest quarter on the quarter line and on the east side of the road of Section 22 of Union Township. It is one-quarter mile north of Sandyville, Iowa, which is nine miles east of Indianola on Highway 92.

Many of the early settlers of the Sandyville area came from Ohio and Indiana, The first settlers were William G. Sandy and J.M. Blanchard, who arrived in 1847 and entered land in 1848. Phillip Lambert and Mr. Harmon also arrived in 1847. Other early settlers were E.R. Smith, Rev. Lansing Harris, T.J. Sinnard, Miss Sarah Varner, D.A. Felter, Benjamin Beeson, C. Cunningham, I.M. Sherman, James Stafford and J. Moorman.

The town of Sandyville was laid out by and named for W.J. Sandy in 1851. It was incorporated in 1905.
