Aug. 5, 1855: Marriage of Frederick G. Trick and Keziah Wilkins,
Portsmouth, Scioto Co., Ohio by Stephen Smith, J. P.
Aug. 22, 1857: birth of Doratha J. Trick in Wapello Co., Iowa. [note:
given name also spelled "Dorotha" in one paper]
Oct. 2, 1859: Birth of Emmanetta Trick in Wapello Co., Iowa. [note:
given name also spelled Emanetta and Emmanetty in other papers]
Jan. 28, 1862: Frederick G. Trick enrolled Jan. 28, 1862 at Ottumwa,
Iowa in Co. D, 15th Reg, Iowa Volunteers.
Feb. 3, 1862: Birth of Harriet Christena Trick in Wapello Co., Iowa.
[note: given name also spelled Harriot in one paper]
March 14, 1862: Frederick G. Trick mustered into service, Co. D, 15th
Reg. Iowa Volunteers at Keokuk, Iowa for three years.
April 7, 1862: Pvt. George F. Trick, Co. D, 15th Reg. Iowa Volunteers,
killed in action at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee.
Nov. 1, 1862: Keziah Trick, widow of George Trick, appeared in Wapello
Co. District Court to make a declaration to obtain a widow's pension.
W. B. Varner and William Newell attested as to her identity.
Dec. 24, 1862: Affidavit of Keziah Trick as to the names and ages of her
children with soldier George Trick. The information she gave was as
follows: Doratha Trick, born August 22, 1857; Emmanetta Trick, born Oct.
2, 1859; Harriet Christena born Feb. 3, 1862. She stated that at the
time of her husband's death she and the children were living in
Eddyville, Wapello Co., Iowa.
Dec. 1, 1863: Affidavit of Stephen Wilkins, Lee County, Iowa, attested
he was in the same company, Co. D, 15th Iowa Volunteers, as George F.
Trick,
saw him shortly after he was wounded on April 6, 1862, stayed with him
until his death the next day, and helped bury him. [note: is this person
related to Keziah Wilkins Trick?]
March 14, 1863: Keziah Trick admitted to pension files, Certificate
#1014, at the rate of $8.00 per month, payment retroactive to April 6,
1862.
March 22, 1863: Keziah Trick marries Emanuel Myers at the home of the
groom; James M. Hull, J. P. Remarriage removes her from pension rolls.
June 5, 1866: Keziah Trick Myers files a "Declaration of Minor Children
for Pension" for Doratha and Emmanetta. Ezekiel and Rebecca Wilkins
attest
to the names and dates of birth of Doratha J. and Emmanetta Trick.
[note: daughter Harriet Christena not mentioned--did she die sometime
between Dec. 1862
and June 1866?]
June 8, 1866: Keziah Trick Myers files "Letters of Guardianship" for her
children, Doratha and Emmanetta; approved same day.
Dec. 15, 1868: Keziah Trick Myers, now a resident of Worth Co.,
Missouri, applies for change of pension payment from Fairfield, Iowa to
Macon City,
Missouri; claims the family moved to Missouri for (quote) "bettering
their conditions in life"; appoints R. W. Boyd of Eddyville, Iowa to
represent
her children in their minor's pension case.
Jan. 14, 1869: Affidavit of A. B. Comstock, physician of Wapello Co.,
stating that he attended Keziah Trick (now Myers) at the birth of
Doratha Trick
on Aug. 22, 1857 and Emmanetty Trick on Oct. 2, 1859.
April 20, 1869: Approval of minor's pension for Doratha and Emmanetta at
the rate of$8.00 plus $2.00 per month for child commencing March 23,
1866 to Oct. 1, 1875.
Keziah's place of residence is given as Chillecothe, Wapello Co.
[note: minors were removed from rolls at age 16.]
Sept. 29, 1869: Emanuel Myers dies in Worth Co., Missouri.
Oct. 17, 1870: Keziah Myers, widow, married Jacob Davidson in Worth Co.,
Missouri; John Pierce, J. P.
Oct. 15, 1871: Jacob and Keziah Davidson moved back to Wapello County.
1891: Jacob and Keziah Davidson moved to Birmingham, Van Buren, Iowa.
Dec. 23, 1892: Jacob Davidson dies in Birmingham, Iowa.
Oct. 29, 1901: Keziah Davidson, applied to be reinstated to the pension
roll after the "Act of March 3, 1901" which allowed unmarried women who
were
original pensioners to be readmitted to the pension rolls.
Nov. 4, 1901: Affidavit of Van Buren County Treasurer, stating that for
the years 1900 and 1901 he found no personal or real property acceded to
either
Jacob or Keziah Davidson. On the same date Keziah, in an affidavit,
stated while she did own her home, but she was unable to work and had no
other means
of support. [evidently you had to prove "need" to be readmitted to the
rolls.]
Nov. 16, 1901: Affidavit of Virginia Weigart, of Inwood, Shasta Co.,
California, daughter of Emanuel Myers, attesting to the facts of her
father's marriage
to Keziah Trick, his death and Keziah's remarriage to Jacob L. Davidson
and his death. That since the time of the move to California she often
corresponded
with Keziah Davidson and knew of her circumstances.
Nov. 21, 1901: Affidavit of Emma N. Myers, of Inwood, Shasta Co.,
California, [daughter of Keziah?], stating she had known her all her
life and attesting
to the facts of her father's marriage to Keziah Trick, his death and
Keziah's remarriage to Jacob L. Davidson and his death. That since the
time of the
move to California she often corresponded with Keziah Davidson and knew
of her circumstances.
March 1902: Affidavit of Beuna Vista Taylor, daughter of Emanuel Myers,
stating that during the marriage of her father and Keziah Trick there
occurred no
separation or divorce during their marriage.
May 20, 1902: Keziah Davidson readmitted to the pension rolls at the
rate of $12.00 per month, retroactive to Nov. 2, 1901.
Aug. 16, 1910: Keziah Davidson dropped from rolls due to death on June
23, 1910.
August 20, 1910: Letter from "Overseer of the Poor of Peoria Township,"
(Peoria Co., Ill) stating that the county paid a local undertaker $35
for the burial
of Keziah Trick, and was seeking reimbursement from the Pension Board
for the deceased pensioner.
August 22, 1910: Letter to Pension Board requesting reimbursement for
Mrs. Belle Taylor, daughter of Keziah Davidson. An itemized statement
included expenses
due to her death: doctor bills, burial (in addition to the $35 paid by
the township), medicine and train fare to Fairfield, Iowa for burial.
Stated deceased
lived at her home in Peoria, first became ill with "stomach trouble" on
May 25, 1910 and died at her home in Peoria on June 23, 1910.
