daughter of William Warfield Walker and Delia (Walter) Walker.
She was greeted at home by an older sister Wilma. A brother
Henry would later join the family. Mildred was baptized in the

Church after her marriage.
Mildred loved growing up on her parents' farm in rural Lenox.

schools close to her parents' farm. She graduated

then attended two years of college in Maryville, Missouri.
After college, she worked as a bookkeeper in Lenox, at a
recording company in Los Angeles and at a Christmas Card
Company in St. Louis.
On April 20, 1941, Mildred married her high school classmate
Harry Raymond (Ray) Cheese in Bethany, Missouri. Shortly after
their marriage, Ray entered the United States Army serving in
World War II. Mildred followed him as long as he was stateside,

Mike and his wife Kay.

liked to call her the "Social Director" of her friends as she helped
to organize outings and invited these special ladies frequently to her home.
Mildred loved words. This love showed in the poems and
many letters she wrote, the reading of children's books to her
